How to work towards hating society less

It’s something most of us on this sub will live with. Hating their society but also needing to be a part of it, the other option being starvation. I’ve got to the point where I hate this country an society so much that it’s severely affecting mental health and entire life. I can’t do anything without stressing about work, the future, consumerism etc. I just wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas on how to get over this, I still want to be aware of the things going wrong in society, I just don’t want them to consume me. Anyone have any tactics/mechanisms to help let go?

I need to be “thankful”

I currently work for a company that operates kiosks inside of Walmarts. Yesterday while I was with a client I got a horrible pain in my side and almost threw up. I managed to finish with that client but TOLD my boss I was going to the emergency because something was definitely wrong. I soon got a call on the work phone as I was getting up to leave that I was not allowed to leave the desk before I finished all of that’s days appointments. I said I physically could not continue to sit at a desk for another 5 hours in pain like this. I closed down my kiosk and took myself to the er. As I was being admitted my boss called and told me that I should be “thankful” she let me leave and not discipline me. Anyway i found out I have a kidney stone…

An “argument” against socialised medicine

I was at a dinner last night with some of my folks’ conservative friends in the US (I’ve lived in Ireland for over 20 years). They were asking about our government run health service when one cut in that it’s not free—it’s prepaid before you use it with your taxes. She said it was the same with cheaper university fees. So she doesn’t like state services because everyone pays for them whether they use them or not? Kind of like…insurance. Earlier, she was telling me how cheap her grandson’s university degree was going to be in Australia—much cheaper than it would have been in the US. I have no words…

Today my direct supervisor of the past 3 years asked who my direct supervisor was.

Just happened to have to call him with a question. You know, like I’m supposed to. Conversation spiraled into an honest chat about the disorganization of the company. I literally get sent 26 pallets with less than 24 hours notice all the time. Most recently 2 days after getting a foot of snow. I have no loading dock and no storage area for shipments other than shipping containers outside often frozen shut that the pallets are too tall to fit in. They don’t give me the inventory count for shipments and I have to recount them nearly every time. 10 degrees or not. I can’t take holiday or even have a single day off without checking email to make sure nothing is coming. We never have people scheduled to unload trucks, so I need to know ASAP to try and get help. I’m spiraling again. Anyway, the guy finally asked…

i have lied about my 2nd career to avoid lots of work extracurriculars, you should too.

i currently work at printdropper in pittsburgh, but i used to work in kitchens and landscaping before i made my home here. i absolutely love this job; very cool staff and coworkers, decent PTO well from covid, coming in less than an hour late isnt an absence, and a bunch of other stuff that it dope as hell. with all good things said, we still have problems and its mostly “mandatory overtime” around chirstmas and mothers day. i also used to regularly work in a recording studio in the south side (upstreet records) but after covid i decided i cant take doing in-person recording sessions so i only do remote mixing and mastering for them sometimes. i had marked friday-sunday as studio days when i first started working at PD but eventually picked up sundays to make some extra cash. any time we get really busy my boss does a…

My last day at work

This is me venting because I’m annoyed. Today’s my last day at work after giving in my two weeks notice. My plan was to call in sick today because I’m a full-time student and have an exam tomorrow. I didn’t mention this plan to anyone but my manager told me she would do a going away thing for me on my last day. I honestly didn’t expect/want that because I hate this place but I thought it was a nice gesture so because of that I came into work today. My shift is almost over and my manager didn’t even show up. I feel dumb because once again, I put this stupid job over myself and I still have an exam to study for when I get home. I know it’s not a huge deal but I’m annoyed.

Started a job, Worked one day, Quit

Title says it all. I recently picked up a job at a local nursery, thinking working with plants cant be to bad even if it is corporate. The day of the interview, I go into the store on time and ask for the manager. They have me sit down and wait as he is busy with other things. Another guy who was there to interview had been waiting for 45 minutes and they had him sit with me. Him and I chit chat for about 15 minutes until the manager finally comes over to interview us. Now it has turned into some sort of group interview because the manager obviously doesn't have time for interviews. He asks both of us the usual questions and then had us answer a “Plant Quiz”. I finish up with this and then leave. I drive myself all the way home, which is about a…
