First time posting, long time lurker. I just put in my notice at my job. I'm going to stay home with my infant son and do custom woodworking in the evenings. Not to say I had the worst job ever but no one has received a raise in 4 years, turnover is high in my department with no filling of open positions. After looking at the numbers and adding childcare into the mix, my wife and I decided we could make do with me staying at home Thanks for the courage from all the posts!

“Not willing to work”
My old work is really struggling so my old boss called me up and we were chatting. Originally i was planning to go back 2 days a week but they dragged there feet and now im too swamped with my own company. Dude got pissed off and literally called me another “lazy democrat not willing to work”. Im sick of being told im lazy and need to go back to work just because I opened my own company. So i took pictures of my recent invoices (not the names just the order). The jobs started as one or 2 items here and there then 10 then 20 the most recent order is for 400. I make $100 of each one customer supplies the item and all parts all i do is labor refurbishing the items. I even have my competitors contacting me to sub contact work out to me.
Has anyone ever been criticized on a performance review for being “overly appreciative”? I was dinged for this as apparently I say please and thank you too much, and am too appreciative when I receive help from coworkers and supervisors. I was raised to always be sincere and say please and thank you, but apparently my boss thinks this is a bad trait. Maybe she thinks this shows a sign of weakness? I just don't get it. I've always been told you catch more flys with honey than with vinegar. How can being appreciative be considered a bad thing? I work for a public institution. Non client facing. Am I being too sensitive and just need to be more of a bit** at work?

Weird Owners/Employers
Wanted to share my story to see if anyone else can commiserate with good whack-job owner stories. Here’s my story: For background, I’m a fairly seasoned manager (10+ years). I took a seasonal position with a family-owned business because it sounded fun and challenging, but still within my wheelhouse. It was an eleven week gig. The first 7 went great, but the last 4 were miserable. To start, I felt like things were going great! I got along well with all of the employees and actually enjoyed the job. One of the owners even texted me one evening to tell me I was doing a great job. I had only gotten positive feedback and had no indication there was anything that needed improving; I was super excited to finish the season on a good note. Fast forward to four weeks before the end of our season….the owners blindsided me with…
