Why do they always try to trick employees?

We just got told that we can work overtime. Which sucks, but I could use time and a half. Plus I don't have a life anyway. So I asked my boss if I could work late tonight. He told me that I could only do it if my workload justifies it. Well, considering how much work I keep getting, I would say that it's justified. He told me that he would let me know later if he agreed. Guess who did NOT work late tonight.

Going back to office because our colleague is a close contact of a COVID case

Hi all I received newest announcement from our lovely top management. One of our colleagues' family member has COVID and our colleague has taken the preliminary testing but no results yet. Therefore everyone currently working from home will need to return to office starting tomorrow. Those who are currently in office can work from home starting tomorrow. I don't get it, our job nature allows us all to WFH with only very minor hiccups. Last year when we got a close contact case, we could all 100% WFH for the day until the colleague got the test results. Are the management out of their minds?!

Uncompensated full time job with the federal government

I’m looking for work as an attorney and was scandalized to discover that the US Attorney’s Office hires “uncompensated” special assistant AUSAs. They require a law degree and a year of experience, and have a $0 salary and “limited” benefits. It looks like this practice gained popularity during the recession: after 2008 there were several unusually difficult years for new lawyers trying to break into the profession, and the federal government exploited this to the greatest extent they could by offering fully unpaid jobs. A 2011 article on the practice. Also interesting – a cohort of assistant US attorneys urged AG Holder to stop the practice in 2013 and pointed out that it was illegal; the office blew them off and the practice continues. Just another example of destructive anti worker practices pervading every industry.

UPDATE: On the Back of Students: Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District

The Rohnert Park Board of Trustees and Superintendent are shaming teachers for seeking a living wage. On February 15, the Cotati Rohnert Park Unified District held a board meeting, an update on negotiations was briefly touched upon. The board did not respond or ask any questions to those addressing the board. However the board and superintendent did send a letter to all parents shaming teachers for daring to ask to be able to live on their communities without taking a second job. The fact that board is openly saying stating that a living wage for teachers will come on the back of students insults the intelligence of the community. Below are the highlights of the most shameful actions the board and superintend have taken. 1) Failure to attend negotiations: Not a single board member has attended negotiations, the superintendent has only attended to drop off donuts. (Keep your donuts and…

College assignment

Good afternoon, this post will probably be taken down but it’s worth a shot, but I’m genuinely curious and have a couple questions to ask the people of this sub Reddit. I also may use the info of other for my up coming college assignment. When we think of America and the money, we usually think of a capitalist country with most the wealth owned by a very small percentage of Americans. That being said, what would you guys think would be the best system to put in place in America that wouldn’t absolutely destroy the economy. Me being young, and a future finance major, looks at a capitalist economy as an okay thing, I think it definitely needs some tweaking but the competition aspect of it is really what keeps the economy going. For the most part. Obviously a capitalist economy has a very bad time in helping out the…

Company Takes Away Tips for Benefits Program

Last year I worked for a convenience store company in the Midwest. When I was hired, a listed benefit for full-time employees was a program called “families helping families.” Coworkers were encouraged to donate a portion of their monthly paycheck to an optional company charity to help employees in times of need. I thought it was a bit odd that a charity was sold as a benefit, but it seemed a nice enough idea, so I didn’t think much of it. Additionally, the company had a policy that basically said employees can’t take bribes or anything else from customers to influence their judgement. This seemed pretty standard and at the time didn’t seem that odd. For anyone who’s worked at a convenience store/ gas station, you’ll know that the vast majority of customers tend to be in a bad mood or at best neutral, positivity is very rare. One evening…

She loved her old job.

My friend (F25) was a short drive away from decent pay, annual bonuses and friendly coworkers. All things considering she loved her job until another company’s takeover/policy changes and subsequent firings changed the office for the worst. She’s now doing the work of three alone, has no manager and is no longer entitled to the bonus she earned until after ALL employees including those outside the office and not receiving anything extra complete “training”. This blows my mind!! I told her to simultaneously look for another job while asking for more money from the one she has. Can anyone suggest a way to go about the latter or how to move about this “new” environment ?
