As title says, Hired on with Pride transport expecting to be paid little over 15 an hour give or take, granted this was barely anymore then the job I left for it with more hours and the expectation I'd be away from home for weeks on end. I originally was very excited to seriously get into driving since I've had my cdl since I was 19, but first week was about as good as I could've asked for, trainer constantly told me that I shouldn't have even had to go through the training because of prior experience that couldn't be verified. But that's a story for another day. Well fast forward to last week, I got a non local trainer to get my training hours faster along with my pay stub for the prior week. I guess it's all a big mystery to the upper brass. Today there was a meeting with heads of different departments. And the director of the company's call center announced the results of an employee survey that recently went out. One of the biggest gripes listed in the survey was ''below market compensation,'' which explains why the turnover rate is higher than usual. The head of this department then went on to say that she doesn't understand why this perception exists given that she checked the national average for this type of work, and apparently our company is “more than competitive” by that standard. Nobody (who was allowed to speak in the meeting) questioned this idiotic notion. My head almost exploded when she uttered these words. Seriously, NATIONAL fucking average?? So I work for a novelty cafe downtown in Chicago. They hire mostly high schoolers and college students. This means they (usually) work around our school schedules and whatnot. I am a college student that lives in an apartment near my campus, so I have to pay rent and utilities and internet and food and things. Firstly, it's irritating because they assume that of you are on break then they can schedule you the whole break, which is not okay. They also block off holidays and days of high traffic to request off. Most of the summer is blocked because of holidays and events downtown. It is February, and I let them know I will be out of town from May 11-June 11.
