I don't know if this belongs here, but I figured I might as well ask. The question is what it says on the tin, but if you'd like more context as to why I'm even asking this, then keep reading. I graduated from college with a degree in accounting a year ago. I have a friend who graduated at the same time that I did. He had connections, I did not. He immediately found work at one of the Big 4. I interviewed for the same position but got nothing. I was genuinely happy for him. But then, about a month ago, I went in for an interview as an insurance underwriter and I haven't heard back since. Fine, whatever. But then I noticed that my friend's Linkedin status changed from working at that big 4 organization to working at the company that I had just interviewed at for the…
My current company always seems to find people as apprentices, interns and what not. The problem is that these new hires are completely useless, even after training them up. God knows I’m never the smartest or most ambitious person in the room but today, the new girl was talking about her mental ex-wife and the other kid chipped in and used this as an example of how the American health system is broken. This went on for two hours and their conversational topics transitioned into drug abuse and broken homes, all the while more senior people just tried to get their shit done. On top of that, neither of them ever come in on time or hit their KPIs even remotely. Funnily enough, we lost another basket case a few month ago after the training and apprenticeship period because they bloke asked for a £50k salary and preferred to wait…
How do I unionize my workplace?
My coworkers just found a post for an entry level position posted by our company on indeed for more money than we're all making after years in the exact same position. Everyone is pissed and the only woman is making $2,000 less than another male coworker with less experience! I'm pretty sure there are laws against that! What do you think would be the best way for all of us to ask for a raise collectively? Inflation is up, you know and they blatantly have the money to pay more. Again this is an entry level position. I have ~3 years experience in my field and licenses that allow me to do specialized work. Could someone please tell me how to form a union in practice? How confrontational does it have to be? I don't want to piss off half the people I work with off too. Who…
So, I'm currently living in VA. Marijuana is legal, but I know I'm about to lose my spot in a temp agency because I failed a drug test. Thank god for my fiance. She is the most wonderful woman I have ever met, and I'm so blessed to be with her. She's been helping me get through this emotionally. This isn't the first time I've been fired, far from it. However this is the first time, where for basically the entire month of January, they were severely cutting hours, and then for the past two weeks we only worked 1 to 1.5 days for the week, where we were normally getting 40 hours. Sadly, I'm the one bringing (was) in basically the only income. (OH! Fun kicker part, if we get married, she loses her benefits because 13/hr is a livable wage?) Now what happens? I don't know. I really,…
Don’t apply for a job with ADT.
Today I applied for a position with ADT and immediately after applying I received a rejection letter for a job I was very qualified for. So I brush it off, then proceed to have 2 more rejection letters sent to me a while later. Thank you ADT for building my confidence up. Really appreciate it.
Hey, bit of background I currently work at supermarket. Have only worked there for a year but I’ve had customer service customer service experience since I was 14 (worked at my aunts salon for some extra pennies to find my sweets addiction) Just turned 20 currently taking a break from my Politics, IR, Economics Undergraduate degree due to certain circumstances in my family that have made it hard for me to focus on my studies hoping to go back in September. I work very hard for this company I must say I do put my all into what I do whether it’s stacking shelves or being at the tills actually have to converse with customers even the fussy customers. I’m good at handling situations. I’m a very fast learner and I just get on with the job really. I would like a raise I’m just not sure how to go…
The Workplace is Not Democratic
Folks, by definition capitalism is not democratic. We work like serfs for lords (managers) and kings (CEO). We need to take back the power. I made a vid about this: https://youtu.be/LNwXaj85qlI Please subscribe to my channel. YouTube is not showing my content to new viewers. Wondering why…….
I think it is not that work is bad, it’s that whether the work can bring us happiness. By choosing a meaningful work, we can explore and develop our potential so I think we should not against work completely.
In terms of employee treatment? Most of the high profile stuff singles out larger companies, but anecdotally it seems like the most insane treatment has come from small businesses. What have your experiences been?
