(rant) I’m tired of everyone in my team and specifically that one coworker

One of my coworkers is very extremely weird (the other one has no opinion of his own and just agrees with what the first one says), i felt uneasy while talking to him since my first day when he said something that other people (my manager) are stupid they don’t know anything. He has a habit of saying things nobody asked and out of topic. Like if the topic is “what’s the purpose of class A”, he will first respond with “it is quite self/explanatory” while in reality the naming in codebase is so off and nothing is self-explanatory. when the discussion is about a certain vague logic that involves viewmodels/widget, instead of adding to that, he will say “ok now what are viewmodels/widgets. let me tell you” then he keeps repeating that for 20-30 mins and wasting time. in every ticket, he writes comments for code that i didn’t…

Put in a two weeks. Debating even staying that long.

I’ve been at my job for two years. I hadn’t had much issues until lately. I’ve been sick off and on since December. Colds, Covid, pneumonia, IBS, ovarian cysts, you name it. I just keep getting sick. Work told me to take off until i was negative so i did. I got sick again and thought the Covid came back, so i called off to test myself. Before they told me not to show up if i had symptoms even. I put in to get Monday off to take my mom for treatment. I also put in to get off for an OBGYN Appt. I have ovarian cysts and need ablation surgery for endometriosis. My mom has been diagnosed with lung cancer, and i told her I’d drive her. Well, work didn’t approve it due to “me missing so much”. They’re the ones that told me to stay home! A…

My employer now has a snack box…

It's in the cafeteria. They wrote a e-mail to everyone that it is a big thing on their behalf. Everything in it costs 1€ and they trust us that we don't take something without paying for it. The catch is: None of the items costs more than 0.80€ when you buy it from a regular store. So, my employer is basically scamming us into buying overpriced snacks while talking about “trusting us to be honest”.

Boss is either using me or preparing a transition

My boss (department head) is nearly at retirement age (and she’s wealthy enough to retire whenever she would want to..) I keep noticing she is pushing more of her responsibilities onto my plate. This has slowly happened over the past year with minor (but insignificant) pushback on my end. I am worried she is loading all of the work to me (already working 40+ doing my regular duties) and making her last year(s) easy. In a 1:1 meeting today, she described her quarterly project as “our[‘s]” and “we” are working on the project. It is possible that she is preparing me for the big job, but I feel like it is becoming bigger projects that should be her responsibility. She gets paid significantly more and this next one is a major company-wide decision. On multiple occasions, I have asked for an idea of where I am going. She would not…

Raise Rebuttal

I was due for a raise October 2022 and just got my raise letter today, for $2 more than what I was making. I do accounts payable/receivable, account reconciliations and customer billing for a tech company and have 10+ years experience in billing and office management. When I took this job, I was offered $21/hour when I asked for $24. I took this offer because I needed income ASAP. The rest of the staff is paid as exempt employees who don't have to clock in/out while about 6 others are hourly, myself included, are hourly and are required to use a location based time clock. I want to send a respectful rebuttle to this letter and not only ask for more pay, but to also be an exempt employee as I am the only person in admin that is hourly. What is the best way to go about it? I…

Left my field due to burnout, what can I do now to recover and still pay the bills??

I wouldn't work if I didn't have to to survive. I did everything right. Good grades, college, blah blah. Got sort of fucked at the end. I've been a crisis/mental health social worker for almost a decade. Done everything from serving unhoused people, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, youth therapy, etc. I was bright eyed and bushy tailed for a long time but then realized I was over working myself and often for companies that promoted “work-life-balance” and “self care” but never followed through.I started to get physically sick from exhaustion and finally had to quit my job. Burnout is no joke! I am striving to care for myself but after 2 months of burdening my husband with paying our bills (which his job doesn't cover all the way) I've got to work somewhere.Calculated out the min I need to make to pay everything (rent, car, etc) is $25/hour.I have soooo…

Just wanted to share a major win I’m realizing I had when I left my old job almost a year ago and started my new job.

At my old job I was stressed beyond belief. My health was tanking. I actually ended up with walking pneumonia and was STILL expected to come in. And I was a good girl who never missed a day of work. My BP was through the roof and I was so stressed my heart was actually having an arythymia. The doctor I saw was concerned I might be at risk of a heart attack and insisted on an ekg as my resting heartrate would go from normal to 130/140 for a few minutes and then back to normal. At the age of 29 with no underlying factors but the stress (weight okay, all blood tests okay.) I still worked. But then my pre-school aged, non-verbal autistic son caught the stomach flu. It was bad. I'm the only one who really understands his needs and can tell 'okay we'll stay home' or…
