It’s amazing to me how many people love movies and books like the Hunger Games, Brave New World, etc and don’t connect it to our reality. Like we are living in the Hunger Games now?!!! That’s our world?? How are they enjoying this art without having a panic attack and existential crisis! They just watch this shit then go back to work and go back to living in it! This is dystopian!

So I work as a cook at a retirement home. Recently, we started accepting overflow covid patients from nearby hospitals. At first, this wasn't an issue as they were all secluded on their own floor with nurses handling their meals and dirty dishes. For a week, this was fine. The nurses would wipe down and disinfect any food carts and reusable mugs before they were sent back up to the kitchen. But for some reason, the dumbass regional manager thought that this was a waste of time and would rather the cooks, not given any PPE aside from a pair of flimsy gloves should go directly to the door of the covid ward and handle freshly used eating utensils, plates, trays, etc. After about 3 days of doing this, I came down with covid symptoms. Nearly two years of being fine and avoiding infection, until this. What a surprise! So…
This sign pissed me off
Identifying information redacted. I am feeling very disconnected from *** leadership. This was never more apparent then when **** just said in the Q/A session “I hope people are here for more than pay” when answering a question related to compensation. This feels like corporate capitalist gaslighting, and is something I never would have heard before ****. Don’t get me wrong, I love working for **** but my primary concern and reason for having a job is to survive and take care of my family. Company vision is secondary at best. **** understood that. I feel that this statement by **** was severely out of touch with the reality many of us face, and if the rest of the leadership team shares this opinion I am very concerned.*
I'm leaving in two days to go on a 10 day vacation. We haven't been able to do anything for the past couple years, covid and all. We are so worried, as we are leaving Wednesday, that we are going to get sick and have to cancel everything. Flights, rentals, townhouse the works. Monday here and its supposed to be an easy week with training for two days with 6 other people. One of these assholes was puking all day yesterday, feels like shit today, but decides despite policy comes into training. We are all within ten feet of each other and doing hands on. As soon as i found out he was sick I gathered my belongings and noped the f out. Oh, as I'm leaving I'm very verbal about jeopardizing my health, vacation and why is he even there.
