I know there are very few, but what should happen to honest employers who are unable to pay above the currently changing minimum wage standard?

Employers who have tried to create something more for their employees, but are unable to provide for the recent pay rate increases to their employees. Is it better for the employees to be totally without jobs and being able to make money at all than it is for them to make at least some money while helping out?

Temp Agency impacting unemployment claim

So I recently made a post about how I was laid off unceremoniously from a position at the end of January. I immediately submitted my claim to EI (Canada's unemployment program) and was just waiting for the agency to submit my Record of Employment to the government so I could get my claim approved or denied. That was Jan 21st. It's not Feb 16th, and they still have not uploaded my RoE to the government. If the gov't denies my EI claim, I have to apply for welfare through the province which will take even more time. I'm trying to find information on whether or not I can take legal action for this but I'm not finding anything very helpful. Part of me wants to create an invoice for each day past the 20th it's taken to get my RoE at my previous rate, but I know they won't pay…

Crazy application question

One time I was applying to a management position at this store, one of the questions was: What would you do if someone who was about to retire and had been there for 40 years was slowing down their work. I said I would do nothing, you know, show a little bit of compassion and make sure that he is fine. Apparently the right answer was to write him up. Safe to say I didn't get that job.

Wasted interview?

Imma set this up, and I would appreciate any input on if I wasted my time or not. So I recently got a rejection email for a job that I interviewed for yesterday. It was between me and one other person (who already works within the dept I was trying for). And that said person interviewed the same day I got the email that I wasn’t picked. Reflecting back on my interview there were at least 4 red flags (in my opinion) that made me think a decision was already made beforehand. 1. During my hour interview the hiring manager did NOT take any notes from my responses to her questions. 2. At the end of my interview she didn’t ask if I had any questions, she shuffled me off to meet her boss for a few moments. 3. I already know someone who works in this department and this…

How can I tell my boss that I don’t want to be trained to perform a certain responsibility because I believe it’s above my pay

I work retail for a large clothing brand. I’m now at my third location with the company due to COVID-related transfers. At the first two locations, only managers and one cash specialist opened and closed cash, but at this location, it seems that anyone who is cash trained and is scheduled opening/closing shifts is eventually trained to open/close cash. The managers and cash specialist obviously have a higher wage than us part-time sales associates. Based on the previous two locations, I don’t think this is in line with the brand’s policy, but I suppose I could be wrong? I somehow doubt it though. I have a feeling that my manager will want to train me to close cash soon, but I know that at my previous locations that would come with a raise. What’s the best way to tell him that I don’t want to be trained to perform this…

Immigrants to the US: How has your experience living and working here been compared to your home country?

I ask because this topic came up recently with my girlfriend. She's from Central America and moved here as a child with her family. I went to Central America with her a couple times to visit her relatives and we had a great time. Everyone was full of energy and life, despite how hard it is to get by there. Her aunt explained that since things are so tough they spend their free time with family, having fun, partying, singing, dancing, etc. At the time I lived in an American city that was about 50% Central Americans. When I returned home from Central America I noticed a huge difference in the demeanor of Central Americans in the States. They escaped hard lives to find new opportunities in the US, but that energy and life was gone from them. No singing, no dancing, and parties were more about just getting wasted.…

Is it worth fighting for the Job?

I started a new Job 2.5 months ago. I am a graphic designer and I have worked in 3 agencies before. I had my evaluation talk today with my bosses and they aren't happy with my performance so they want to extend my probation for 1 month. The past 2.5 months I gave my 150 -200% and even worked at the office while my country had a mandatory home office law. I worked on a lot of projects and got good feedback from coworkers and clients. But as a newbie I took my time with some project because it was impossible to deliver the best quality without having done some research. But for the company I took too much time so they are making a loss with me. They told me if I give my everything next month and spend less time on projects I might pass. But giving 200%…

Has this subreddit led you to take action? If so, how?

Have you done anything different as a result of joining r/Antiwork? It can be big or small; just any action that you’d attribute to having engaged with this community. For context, I’m doing a semester-long journalism project as part of a class, and I wanted to look into this subreddit’s impact. If you do reply, thank you so much for taking the time to respond! 🙂

At the end of the rope, about to lose my job. TW: mental health

In two weeks my contract will expire, im getting replaced by a new intern, it wasn't the best job but I really loved the freedom it gave me, 4 days working from home, 1 day at the office, only 6 hours gave me enough money to help my mom pay rent for both of us and with the amount of stuff that went on in my family i've never been able to learn how to drive, we don't even have a family car or a home to call ours, so this was perfect. but i was never able to save up, last month i had to give up my whole paycheck in rent and expenses because my mom doesn't get paid regularly. Now im getting replaced by someone that gets paid 500 euros a month because they have to fill a new office and im unable to find another job…

If anyone didn’t know to not work at Alorica, this is your sign.

I've been working at Alorica, Inc. For over a year at this point, and aside from the unprofessional environment, constantly shifting goalposts, and unhelpful resources, the final straw for me came when I started having trouble with the equipment provided to me. I have been going back and forth with our tech support chat because the pcs they send me do not work properly, so I have to keep getting new equipment. This would not be a problem, but the company flat out stated to me that the time that I'm waiting on THEM to send me equipment that is NOT checked for QA purposes is unpaid. So the number of hours I made went from 40+ to less than 10 hours a week due to not being compensated for their faults. When I talked with my supervisor regarding this I got the advice that since Alorica will not provide…
