It's long, I'm sorry. I've recently hit some serious burnout with my job (oil burner technician). The hours are dog shit. 7am to whenever they decide to stop sending me calls. On call 2-3 times a week. Some days I work 15+ hours. I actually got home around 6 pm last night. They started calling me around 9:30 and I just fucking ignored them. That's the first time in 5 months I didn't jump to answer my phone. It made me realize how I feel like a whipped dog. I make okay money (yet still waaaay below the industry standard), but that comes at the expense of literally everything else. No free time to hang out with my girlfriend, play with my cats, see my family, no hobbies, etc. I come home, shower, eat, and pass the fuck out because I'm exhausted. I left the field before to go work…

Can I record?
I work in a state hospital as a housekeeper. I have had some problems recently with management. I was called into into the office “for a talk.” I feel like I have not done anything wrong but that management has been more than bending rules. I got my phone out to record the conversation but the supervisor was very angry and said it was against the law. I am in Iowa. The aggressiveness of the supervisor had me questioning. Does anyone know if this is against the law? Sorry if this post doesn’t belong here!!
My company just got bought by another company and at first I was excited. I signed up for a bunch of coverages because at the time my wife and I could afford it. Well my wife lost her job so I decided to keep most coverage but to adjust it to lower the cost. No big deal, coverage hasnt begun yet. I'm being told once submitted no changes can be made. Would have been nice to know but thats fine. I'll just call the insurance team (they have a special team that we can talk to for free) and find out if I can cancel the plan via the insurance company since my company wants to be difficult. I just dont get it. Coverage hasn't started but I cant adjust anything? Its still open enrollment for another month- Sorry just needed to vent.
By organization, I mean ANY kind of organization like employers and Universities. Want admission in a University for a master's program? Go get ATLEAST 2 letters of recommendation from your professors of your graduate course. So, you past professors and colleges get to control your chances of getting admission at a masters program. Want to switch jobs? Go get a relieving letter and/or experience letter from your last employer? Oh, and don't forget to add contact details of a reference from your last job. So, if colleagues or your manager at your last job wasn't happy with you quitting, they get a free run to spoil your reputation to your current employer. God save you, if your reason for switching jobs was to escape toxic colleagues/manager in the first place I can't understand, why is it legal to organizations to have so much control over us? I mean employers could…
I remember back in the day, like pre 2015 or so, it was so easy to find an “entry level” job or switch industries because all you needed were skills. I would say I have great skills that can transfer across industries, but these new employers want years of specific experience and its so unnecessary. Things they're asking for are what training is for. Its not difficult to train a competent adult. Now even if you have skills to complete the job they still was 1-5 years of experience to even apply. Who tf is applying for these jobs? I guess someone that hates their current job, but they wouldn't be entry level at that point. These requirements seem toxic off the bat too, and they make me think the job would be stressful. I've read posts where people say apply anyway which I will probably do. I also googled…
