Managers and directors all buzzed off their tits about it with loads of “thank yous” for everyone's hard work to get the company to this stage but they didn't even bother to give us a Christmas bonus. No pay rises despite cost of living crises just a stupid raffle where 10 people won a prize for Christmas. Everyone in the office was waiting to hear that we'd all be getting a small raise considering the state of things in the UK but oh no, theyre running workshops to tell people how to spend less money instead. Can't believe I worked so hard for the last 2 years and got dragged back into the office just to sit and listen to how grrrrrrrreat this is going to be for “everyone”.

Rant. Much of my state, including the county I live and work in, is under a severe winter storm warning tonight, and a blizzard warning beginning noon tomorrow. Temperatures will be below -30 degrees Fahrenheit all day tomorrow, and there will be wind speeds of up to 40 mph all day tomorrow. The National Weather Service is expecting whiteout conditions and next to no visibility for drivers. Even before the blizzard warning, conditions are expected to be at “near-blizzard conditions.” The NWS also said, “The winds will create blowing snow and possible blizzard conditions, which coupled with dangerously cold wind chills, will make for dangerous and potentially life threatening conditions if you become stranded in your vehicle.” Most of my (very large) office commutes to work via driving on various highways. They said they will not be closing the office or allowing anyone to work remotely who doesn’t normally work…
Where to go next?
I am hoping to get some advice on how to proceed with my career I’ve been working as a 2nd tier escalations specialist (when clients as for the manager’s manager for anyone who hasn’t worked in CS) for 3 years for a company I used to love. The company has made a lot of changes in policies and personnel in the past year and the workplace environment has unfortunately plummeted. Less PTO, money-grab policies, and a panic grip on my department’s resources. I’ve been through a 4 month leadership program with them, led multiple pilot programs for them, and am basically an assistant to our whole upper management team – all the while being told that as soon as a management position opens up, they’ll consider me first. Of course, with the current economy they’ve frozen any internal hiring indefinitely. So now I’m stuck at a job, with a proven…
I’m in need of advice… I work for a massive production company, if you enjoy sports you probably watch our productions every week. We travel pretty much every week for 6-7 months of the year, and most people are awarded full travel benefits. I started as an intern type contract position, paying for my own travel, but have gained lots of responsibilities and have done 2 full seasons. Boss still won’t give me full travel benefits, but offers to supplement my pay to cover flights. Here’s the catch; there is no way to tell that they actually added the full cost of the flight to my paycheck. My paystubs don’t even represent my hours accurately; It lists my pay at 14/hr when I actually am being paid 30-40/hr. The only indication that there is additional money in each check is a small section that says: “multiplier: 1”. Paystub is as…
How did you find your current job ?
Was it through indeed/LinkedIn, a job recruiter, career fair, newspaper?
Immigration and work reform
I have a question for this sub. I’m an immigrant to North America. I am endlessly thankful and fortunate to have had the opportunity to live my whole life here. Which is why I would like to discuss a conflict that I have been struggling with. My question/moral dilemma is, do we, the left have to reckon with how immigration can be at odds with the advocacy we hope to accomplish on the part of labour? More specifically the labour market (in North America at least) is very tight now. Meaning employers are desperate for workers. Instead of forcing capital to feel the pain of understaffing and raising the compensation of labour; Our governments, both Canadian and American are responding to this situation by increasing immigration. This creates a glut of employees looking for jobs, thereby allowing capital to not have to raise wages or improve working conditions. I’d like…
Amazon Holiday Wishes
Amazon suggesting I be nice to their delivery drivers this holiday season is pretty weird coming from a company that forces them to pee in bottles in their trucks because they don’t get bathroom breaks.
Work is so demoralizing. (Me griping)
I hate working for big corporations. Even in a blue collar company run by people (managers) who have worked in manual labor all of their life, the fucking shareholders and upper management are so out of touch. It's so dumb. We don't need to make infinite profits. Nobody needs to. Nobody needs to push growth and expansion like crazy. Like, yeah, businesses need to keep up with times and with demand, but there's no need to take on the amount of work that requires an entire company (almost 9000 nationwide, and about 40 at my location) work 60+ hours/week. I hate working myself to death. I hate seeing other people work themselves to death.
