More Profit with less people….
God damn I hate late stage capitalism
Who else makes to much to be promoted?
I was working as a barista at this small independent 3rd wave coffee shop since June. We were a really small team, 4 baristi and the owners, husband and wife (I’ll refer to them as Mr and Mrs Boss). I loved my colleagues, but from the beginning on I noticed something was off with Mr Boss. My colleagues only confirmed my suspicions, that he was a narcissist. He kept micromanaging us, he flipped out every time we made the smallest mistake but obviously if we worked really hard or we did amazing he never ever gave a compliment. Like there were more red flags than on a Chinese military parade. We regularly worked unpaid overtime, worked 9 hour shifts alone without anyone giving us a break or even have the chance to go to the toilet (god forbid to eat a bite mid-rush), monthly salaries were coming irregularly and we…
The optometrist I work for is literally in peoples faces during an eye exam!! I feel personally responsible for our patients and don't want anyone to die because of her. What do I do?! We have some very elderly and at risk patients that I want to protect but I have been there a long time and can't quit. I like my job. This crosses all the lines in my opinion.
I've been told I'm getting a 9.1% payrise, inflation where I am is 11.3%. In general I would have found this OK if it was just the cost of living affecting it. HOWEVER, my issue is that in the last 3 months i've took on the role of somebody who left the company, their salary was 24% higher than mine, so I was expecting at least 20% at this review. I'm angry I've taken on this huge role and I'm supposed to be grateful that I'm still the hourly wage equivalent to 85% of the last person. WITH the payrise I'm still also on 1k less than the previous person who did just my original role, not my original role with these additional responsibilities. I was told in June I would be getting a small payrise (which I expected to be to about where I am now – 9-10%) with…
I guess I’ll just die.
Just because the job is remote doesn’t mean they don’t overload you with work and burn you out. We still have to log 8 hours a day and they give everyone more work than can realistically be done in that timeframe. They can justify underpaying because “remote” is a “benefit” They replace everyone by outsourcing to third world countries and everything is going downhill. Plus people like to work with people who can understand them and the areas they live in and the time zone is difficult to manage. Plus it’s bad for morale. There’s a major restructure coming. That’s never a good sign. They also constantly complain we don’t make the company enough money. If I didn’t have a pressing financial need right now I would also leave. Im just so tired. Everyone good has left including many leaders and longterm employees.
