Was let go for “insubordination” for questioning manager. To start off I was assistant manager at the job and worked my butt off to get there. I live right behind where I worked so if someone couldn't make it or if issues happened I was right there. Someone that has been there a few months longer and best friends with the manager got upset at my promotion and started acting different towards me ( they were always friendly before). I ended up being demoted because of a management group they brought in and they said no assistants were needed. ( That was very questionable since the manager was never reachable after she left work and in our field someone needs to be available at all times so an assistant would make sense). Fast forward a few months and they fire the management group and a new assistant was named, low…
Category: Antiwork
I just quit my first job.
So this is a little shitty burger place that’s open to very late. I came in a broke college student with no work experience, but still happy to work. I had previously told management that I could not work too late and that I had to catch a bus by a certain time which they were completely fine with, because they found a way to exploit my labor. They would purposefully schedule me 10 minutes after my bus (the very last bus) which left at 11:20, and scheduled me to leave at 11:30. When I asked to leave they would flat out tell me I was supposed to stay to the very last minute of my shift and only then could I leave then told me they would be able to drive me home if I closed. Not having any other option, I closed. I was handling a full college…
Bullshit article from WSJ
Looking for a specific post/advice
Does anyone remember the post about being talked to about not being “warm”. I had a not so good Evaluation due to “behavior” nothing more from that I can only think of issues where I said I wouldn’t take on additional duties because it never reflects positive on myself & credit is given to others around me. I kept getting the “that’s how it is sometimes” but it’s not sometimes it is EVERY SINGLE TIME. I do all this work, get stressed over it & get a pat on the back while simultaneously getting screwed over & someone else awarded. I want to email the rater of my evaluation to ask clarifying questions so I can take this to HR because for the past 2 years I have felt targeted & this is my breaking point. I feel like they just want me to smile while going through the ringer.…
I've been reading a few articles and it is so fascinating to me that in modern day countries like Russia, China and India, there can be so many slaves (~40m, about half in India). Some of them are in forced labor, others are held in debt bondage, having to sometimes pay generations' worth of debts. I feel like slavery is rampant and commonplace in human society and we see it through our western lens of being a free person. But if you start to see it through a lens of, “I would be a slaveholder if I could”, it makes a little more sense. I know it is a drastic comparison, but are not a mortgage and car payments forms of debt bondage? Are we not pressured to acquire them, and do not most people have them? I feel like I knew about modern slavery in the past and it…
Advice: Work Is Trying To Screw Me
I need good advice. I am an Ontario resident. My company is trying to get me to work Friday, December 23rd saying it is a required day to work. My regularly scheduled shifts are the weekend shift, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. According to their own Christmas Schedule, I have the option of using my PTO or Vacation time on the non-stat days of the weekend. I have done so with the 23rd, 30th, and 1st of January. All 3 days were approved. I also cannot, from home or phone, access my company's information portal with my company credentials to double check and verify. How should I respond to the HR Email: “I just wanted to let you know that we are running a required to run shift on Friday December 23, 2022 from 6AM to 6PM at Plant 5. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.…
