I sent an email to HR Friday morning saying that I believe I have been discriminated against for taking FMLA leave. (A lawyer advised me to do this. I know “everyone goes through it”. I’m not the first nor last. But it doesn’t take the pain away. I started this job 6 months ago for a better opportunity and loved everyone there. I have a gap in my job history. After a few years of using my honest resume, it became clear that the gap was preventing me in obtaining gainful employment appropriate for my level of skill and experience. In order to cover the gap on my resume, I long ago deleted Job A I only held for 7 months and extended the time spent at Job B. I’ve been through seven rounds of interviews and was finally extended an offer to a company I want to work for. in Massachusetts, workers have the right to a 30 break after 6 hours of work. i work overnights, alone, in a very busy store. since we are now the only store that's open all night long for miles and miles, we've become even busier. and now we even recently started offering doordash/uber eats etc, which makes us even busier. all night the stupid mobile order alarm is going off. i sometimes get 15+ per night. Two weeks ago, I decided to start searching for a job again, and yesterday one place emailed me to see if I could come to an interview today at 10am. I said yes because she needed to know by 5 and I didn't see it until 415pm. But as I started preparing for the interview that night, I realized I didn't want the job, and the hour-long bus ride there didn't seem worth the “interview practice” I usually use as motivation. First post here so hopefully I'm in the right place! I'm an independent contractor for a local nonprofit and we have a work happy hour coming up for those involved with the nonprofit and us on staff. I'm part time and bill them hourly instead of being full time and salaried and still am expected to be there. I am not a happy hour person and drink maybe once a month. I don't really like the taste of alcohol and don't like the after effects, but I'm expected to go to this work happy hour and talk with the nonprofit supporters (I'm also an introvert, whoo!). Not only am I expected to take my personal time outside of business hours to do this, but also spend money on appetizers and drinks that will be overpriced for what they are even at 'Happy Hour' prices.
