Oh what a wonderful world….
I just read that text screenshots are restricted to Sundays — shoot! Anyways, I’m a barista in a chain coffee shop. My general manager started a conversation in our shift leader group chat today about drawer shortages. For the whole month, we were short ~$70. He then said to make up this $70, he was taking all of our tips for the week. Legal????
I’ve been drowning in work since Covid, the mass exodus to remote working / people quitting created an even bigger workload with more expectations to complete it. Unfortunately I’ve been a people pleaser all my life, so once I became severely burnt out and tried to find answers I just find myself getting bitter. All this talk of ‘managing your burnout while working’ or that quitting won’t help your burnout, kinda just seems like the reporters are writing in the interests of big business just to keep us peons going. Why don’t they ever address the root of the issue? That a small percentage of workers do majority of the work? And that businesses don’t hire enough staff to give appropriate R&R time to their long standing employees..
Management/Administration
Does anyone else feel like these days managers try to instill fear in their employees? What is this management tactic called? Does it even work?
So I work for a small business in a fairly wealthy area. And my workplace has had a hard time, given that quite a few people have either quit or have been let go. But today, one of my favorite coworkers revealed to me, crying, that she was fired for “not picking up the job fast enough…” before walking out. I wanted to SCREAM for a plethora of reasons! No shit she hasn't pick up the job fast enough! She hasn't had the time!!! She's been stuck doing essentially just back of house shit from the get-go! We have been consistently understaffed for *months* now! And not to mention…
Fired and doing my best
I’ve got pink slipped three times due to this “tech recession” with a heap of employees in the past year alone. I’m so tired of this. I work really hard. I taught myself to code 10 years ago (swift / JavaScript) and the journey has been amazing but I can’t stand being employed anymore. I can’t stand signing another work for hire contract with this sinking feeling that I’m going to get dropped as soon as it’s convenient … only for it to be confirmed. My mental health has been such a struggle (in part due to work), but I’ve been showing ip and pushing through what feels impossible. I’m really proud of my work and my life after coming through a tough divorce in my late twenties. After this morning I went straight to my state’s website and filed an LLC. I know I have marketable skills but the…
