TW: Miscarriage

I found out I was pregnant 2 days ago. Extremely shocked as husband has had a procedure, but that is what it is. Pregnancy is dangerous for me, so I was going to the doctor on Thursday…this is not the easiest few days. I'm a home care worker in the UK at the moment, it's notoriously badly paid for everything we had to do and know, and also badly understaffed. I went to my first visit, starting at 7am, I started to feel cramping, given I had cramping all through my pregnancy with my son I didn't pay it too much attention, took some pain killers and went inside. About 15 minutes in, the cramps started getting worse, knowing how this usually goes (as I said pregnancy and my body aren't suited) I excused myself and messaged my on call explaining and saying I need to go to the hospital…

Best way to deal with a sh!t boss?

I received a wonderful letter of recommendation from my director last week thanking me for all my hard work for the organization. This week it's been brought to my attention that my boss that loves to harass me is attempting to smear my reputation by nit-picking every little mistake I ever made. What is the best way I should go about protecting myself aside from documenting all my work? I am also looking for a new job but haven't received any solid offers yet. Thanks

Did I just shot myself in the foot by negotiating?

I work in the tourism industry, current salary equivalent to about 10.5 USD per hour. Received an offer from another place, low but it has other advantages. Told my current workplace I had an attractive opportunity, they immediately counter offer a promotion, more hours and a raise to around 11.5 USD. I tried to negotiate 13 and better benefits, they declined. I kinda feel like I shot myself in the foot here, because it is unlikely another entry level position would pay better then 10.5. Cost of living is high here and I'm very frustrated that I can hardly support myself as an adult, and when I try to stand up for myself and my worth I'm getting the boot.

The five day work week decreases productivity by an exponential margin

I think we should abolish all capitalistic jobs but I understand that is too far left for the average redditor. So I will argue against wage slavery from a right wing perspective Working five days a week for decades causes people to burn out, be miserable, and slack off constantly. It causes mental illness and addiction trying to cope with a shitty, miserable life. There is absolutely no reason to keep this barbaric tradition that was created during the industrial revolution. People would be so much more productive at work with a 3 or 4 day work week. We would be happier, get more done, and increase profits for our billionaire masters. Threatening an exhausted wage slave doesn’t make them work harder. Forcing people to spend their whole life in a cubicle accomplishes nothing. How do evil corporations not see this?? I honestly think the five day work week has…

Help Talking About Wages At Work

So I work third shift at a 24/7 IT managed services company. I've already talked to the other person who works the same shift as me about wages, which he is getting paid waaaay less than me because he has been with the company for 7 years. I want to talk to the rest of third shift and more of my team about their wages, but I'm worried that management will catch on and react. Can't they just make up a reason to fire me? There is barely any work during third shift, so they could just say 'lack of work/tickets' as the reason for firing me, no?

They really don’t even view us as people

I work for a busy off license chain in the UK. I'm currently on my sixth consecutive full shift which I'm doing on my own because they can't get people to work here. I've been here for two hours and I've already taken in a beer delivery and stocked it out, taken in a cigarette delivery, taken in an ice delivery, completed the daily banking and paperwork, done some stocktaking, and dealt with emails from head office. Our regional manager just walked in as I was leaning on the counter trying to look through books to find the number for the promo department because they haven't emailed us the new promos and I have to order them today. She just looked me up and down and then looked around the empty shop and said “Busy?” in this condescending tone. I started to tell her what I was actually doing and…
