Why do so many companies expect me to just be able to take PTO to come visit for an onsite interview. Some companies will reimburse you for the travel expenses but I had one company that wanted me to travel across the country for an onsite interview with no reimbursement unless I accepted an offer. The plane ticket alone was almost $1k! Not even mentioning needing a rental car or a hotel. I do understand wanting to get a feel for the workplace before accepting anything but the expectation that you can just take PTO on short notice for an onsite interview which could MAYBE result in an offer is insane.
