A few months ago I applied for a job at a company that a few of my friends work at; I had one interview for a position that wasn’t really a matchup, but was impressed with the company and had a good interview regardless.
Various other jobs opened with the company, which I frantically applied to, wanting to get in the door. After 5+ new applications (that I was more than qualified for and with 2 employee referrals each, engineering degree, prior experience) and hearing nothing back, I asked my friend for the contacts of some of the hiring managers. I sent my resume out to some of the contacts, and hear nothing back. My friend gets scolded by HR for sharing contacts (because I guess networking isn’t allowed anymore?)
My financial situation gets worse and I get more desperate. I find their hiring manager on LinkedIn and send an invitation and long winded, heartfelt message about how I would do anything to get a foot in the door with the company. The manager views my profile but neither responds or accepts my invitation.
I finally find another job that would pay WAY more than what they would have offered and accepted.
The first company loses their candidate who they promoted internally for one of their jobs I applied to and calls me back asking to set up an interview, if I’m interested. I do not return their call because I am not in fact interested. They send a second voicemail stating this is the second time they called me and I owe them at least a courtesy call back even if I’m not interested…
