Management just decided that they will schedule everyone 8-5 and change your schedule to the actual hours the night before. We are to check before bed every night. Their reasoning for this is that because the surgery schedule at our surgery center changes all the time with last minute add ons, cancellations, etc.
We used to have 6-2, 7-3, etc. posted a couple weeks in advance, but sometimes that would change the day of and enough people got irritated that they are changing everyone to 8-5. The thing though is that most of our surgeries start at 8, meaning we usually get there 645-7. They also are not offering any extra pay or incentives for this change. Full time is considered 24+ hours here, so it seems weird that we have to make our availability 45 hours. Also, if we have any appointments or anything that we need to tend to during those hours, we have to make a PTO request at least 2 weeks in advance.
Is there labor laws regarding this type of situation? I’m in Oregon and work as a nurse if that makes a difference. Please let me know if I can clarify anything or need to give more information.
