My company/team has experienced some turnover recently, including both my boss and my boss’s boss. The higher position was quickly filled by an established employee from a different team, but my boss’s position has remained vacant.
Except for that it hasn’t, because the work still needs to get done, so pretty quickly the responsibility fell on me. You’ll be shocked at the outcome—more responsibilities, more hours, same pay, same title, etc.
After about 2 months, I’ve eased into the extra responsibility, have been enjoying the work, and have even been told things have been better since I stepped in. So I asked for the promotion. Got quickly shut down, and told they’re looking for someone with a little more experience (the role includes managing the team of 8). Somewhat fair considering I entered the workforce recently, having only graduated college 2 years ago.
Now, I’m being asked to help interview a candidate they’re looking at for this position. I know this isn’t illegal, or necessarily even immoral, but I’m feeling kind of slighted considering I’ve been doing the work for 2 months now with solid marks. Also worried they will ask me to help train this person and somehow I’ll be doing much of their work while being paid less.
I guess I’m just looking for some advice here
