So, I work for a company that provides us a pay bump for maintaining a security clearance. The bonus is tied to our level of clearance. Well, I have been getting 15% for several years and have worked my way up from Engineer to Managing Architect. My base salary is over $200K, so a 15% hit is significant. Today, they announced that they are no longer going to be incentivizing the clearance and quarter ending 30June, it goes away. Now, I have about 13 architects that report directly to me and we had quite the call today. There are 6 of us resigning tomorrow with no notice(they would delete our accounts by CoB tomorrow due to disclosure concerns). Called a colleague from a competitor this afternoon and have a new offer letter coming tomorrow. Going to be tough to walk away from the company, but I am pretty sure that over the next 7-14 days, myself and at least 8 of the other architects will all be gone.
The thing that bothers me the most is that when our leadership made the announcement today, they were quick to point out that only a select few of the larger companies incentivize clearance separately. And they are right, but those other companies almost all offer higher base salaries for the type of work we do. I am walking into a 25% pay increase simply by leaving.
