This happened last month. I was applying for a pretty minor position at a company that is honestly worth multiple millions. The position would last 3 months initially and I would be paid about 15 american dollars an hour. After I applied and had an interview they decided to hire me because they liked my enthusiasm. Nothing about the pay was mentioned and I rightfully assumed that nothing was going on.
It was only after getting my contract that I found out my pay would actually be nearly 5 dollars an hour less than what was in the job posting! Needless to say I called them and they tried to make it seem like it was somehow my fault for expecting the payment they offered. And tried to gaslight me into accepting the low offer.
After that didn't work they blamed it on an internal miscommunication and finally gave in and gave me near the full amount that was promised anyways (within about a dollar).
They then applauded me for my “sportsmanship” whatever that means.
I honestly should have walked away but I needed the money and their hours are really attractive and the pay is very decent for a job of that skill level. But after the 3 months are out, I will be out of there so fast and never look back.
