Antiwork

Company was going to a “once a month” in the office rule. Turned into “once a week”, rule. I resigned before they hit “Once a day”, rule.

Worked at a bank for almost 3 years. The first few months of this we're onsite everyday. When the pandemic hit, we were all allowed to work from home (with exceptions for certain roles). Naturally, productivity went up, people were happier and the bank made a note to comment on this during multiple town halls. Fast-forward to a December of 2021, the bank announced that it would look for employees to be in the office once or two times a month (prefer 100% remote, considering I have a 1.5 to 2 hour drive each way) which I was willing to deal with. A few weeks ago, another announcement came out saying that we will be doing once a week office work instead (no communication or discussion before the announcement). During the town hall meeting, an employee asked, “why do we need to be in the office if we can do our work from home?”. The response was “It's jus fun to be in the office”……The argument was that it's “fun”. That was enough to tell me they had no intention of keeping hybrid work going so I found another job and resigned last week. My new job is a 29% pay increase, promotion on title and 100% remote. During my exit interview, I was asked what prompted me to look elsewhere, I let them know that my job can be done remotely, was given full-time remote position at my new employer and don't find it “fun” to be on the road for 3 hours just to commute. I start in 2 weeks and taking a small mental break (I gave them a weeks notice, want that extra week for myself).
