Corporations just take advantage of you

I just quit my job at the corporate office for a large grocery chain with several different brands on the East Coast. I worked in the customer service department. The customers could be pretty rough but the management was even worse. I started pre-Covid but of course we were sent home to work in March 2020. The only problem was we were now inundated with calls, for a while it was nothing for a customer to wait 45 minutes on hold to talk to a representative. We had to stay late to make sure the calls were cleared out and some of the customers could be nasty about it. The worst problem however was that instead of having a proper phone system and equipment, we were taking these work calls on our personal cell phones. It was a disaster. I repeatedly brought up my concerns to management and voiced the fact that it wasn’t right for us to have to use personal devices for company business, but I just kept being told that they were “working on it”. Other reps were upset as well but of course they were too scared to say anything. During this time a friend had given me a cellphone to use since I was broke. That cellphone became unusable due to the number of calls I was taking on it every day. They also were bragging about how they made money hand over fist, quarter after quarter. Yet they couldn’t be bothered to buy proper equipment for us to do our JOBS. I personally had to buy a new phone because my other one died. I was ANGRY. We did not get a soft phone system until a few months ago. I could go on and on about stupid stuff that has happened but I realized that their words were meaningless. I found a better job at a local small business and I’m hopeful that things will be better.

TLDR: Corporations just view you as a number, not a person.
