Ive recently started working at a company thats in sales in the uk. Ill avoid mentioning what kind if things we sell and what company it is for obvious reasons. After working a few sales i realised that most of my costumers are old and vulnerable. After asking around about it Ive found out that they are our prime demographic since they need the things we sell and are less likely to negotiate the price. After more probing ive found out that excluding my commissions, the company makes 60% of pure profits per sale. Now this figure includes the commission for the higher ups too.
Just to give a comparison, the rest of the market sell at around 45% less than we do but don’t have as much reach as we do.
I was unhappy with this. Making a sale is alright but i guess i don’t feel morally ok with this after finding out how jacked up our prices are. I started playing around with how low i made the sale and i didn’t get a complaint from my bosses. After i go down 48% (including my commission as thats what gets taken down first) i would have to get my bosses approval to make the sale. So that told me i can infringe on their commission as long as its not too much.
Did the math and found out i can live off 2% per costumer ( i get 11 a day). So i bring down my commission by 6% and bring down the company’s profits by 39%. This way i get enough money and my boss doesn’t need to approve to know how much money has gone down.
For the past few days I’ve just told my customers what price i can actually give them instead of negotiating down just the 10% that I’ve been taught to do. The company is still profiting by a large margin, my boss is still getting paid, i can afford to live and the costumer is getting a fair price.
We’ve been told we shouldn’t bring it down more than the 10% but i guess I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing till they find out.
