Coworker is quitting and I don’t blame them.

A month ago I snapped at a coworker for endless pestering me when I’m busy. She went and complained to the company owner who pulled me into a meeting. He pulled up my numbers and found I am doing a majority of the small sales. He asked me what was going on as lately I haven’t been my usually cheerful self. I laid out how the manager was shit, not doing his job, dumping tasks that aren’t my level on me. That I do 90% of the admin jobs, 100% of my sales jobs, have to smooth things over with pissed off customers that the manager insults, screws up their jobs, or generally talks down to. I said I’m tired of the manager and him not checking to see what I’m working on before throwing more at me. I do 99% of the design work for my clients even though…

I do 99% of the design work for my clients even though we have a dedicated graphic designer, who never designs anything, because he is too busy doing anything else, not by choice.

I laid it all out. And at no point did I blame the new person who is doing the same thing I’m doing, but can’t be dumped on.

Owner asks if I want to have a sit down meeting with the manager. I ask why would I want that? So he can try and twist everything I say and lie to my face? Owner promises to resolve this because I’m on the verge of quitting.

So the next day they haul my new coworker into the office and rip into her about how her sales are significantly lower than mine and why isn’t she taking on tasks she hasn’t been trained on or tasks that every time she tries to do they take away and dump back on me. Owner starts emailing her instead of me more often. But still they dump the majority of work on me.

3 days they later they haul her into the office and ask why her productivity isn’t higher and what she plans to do to get her sales up. Any questions she asks are deflected. They continue to make it out to be her being stupid and horrible and not catching on. She is actually very efficient, competent and a great worker. But rather than admit they have a shitty manager who doesn’t do his job they scapegoat the newest person.

She got a job that pays similarly to what she makes now but with a raise in 3 months and room to advance. She will quit within the next 3 days. I wouldn’t blame her for not giving notice as our manager would make her life hell until she left so what’s the point in staying. So starting my job search now. Wish me luck.
