He's quitting for the same reasons I did: toxic culture of intimidation and micromanagement, with a direct sup who utterly lacks people skills, and yet is enabled at the highest levels.
Primarily I am happy for my friend's escape from that hellhole, but I can't help but grin when I think what's going to happen behind the scenes when my friend goes into the director's office and lays out all his reasons for leaving (including the sup doing me dirty and driving me out). Hopefully it will fuck with the whole “It's all Illustrious_Rise's fault” narrative that they tried to push on me.
So now they've lost two good people. That's a significant percentage of the team. Of the remainder, several are actively looking for other work.
The wheels are falling off…
