Coworker Stole My Tips

This is really pissing me off rn and I need to rant. A few months ago I was working at a Mexican restaurant as a server. One day I had a table that paid their bill up front with this hostess (a common practice in Mexican restaurants). My customers came and found me and let me know they left my tip with the hostess. I asked the hostess about it and she said they must have left it on the table because they didn’t leave anything for me. Of course, there was nothing on the table. I told my manager what happened and he laughed at me. I got angry and demanded to watch the surveillance video. He laughed some more, took $5 out of his wallet and told me to get back to work. The customers bill was about $80 so my tip should have been around $16, but…

The customers bill was about $80 so my tip should have been around $16, but I took the $5 and went back to work.

A few weeks later, it was a busy night and I couldn’t get around to cleaning off my tables. So the hostess did it. She even took the papers with my credit card tips (which she is not supposed to do) and input the tips into the computer. I didn’t trust her so I checked the tips later on when I had time, and guess what? She had shorted all of them! Between three checks, she shorted me $11. And she wouldn’t even get that money herself so clearly she just did it to be petty. I got angry and told my manager who asked her about it and she said she put them in correctly. She said the computer must of glitched (nobody else’s tips were in wrong and the tips I put in myself were correct. Just the three she put in for me were wrong). My manager paid me the $11 out of his wallet and told me to get back to work.

After work, I asked my manager what he was going to do about it. He laughed and said he wasn’t going to do anything because she “allegedly” shorted my tips. He kept using the word “allegedly”. Which pissed me off because he knew damn well that the only way the tips could be wrong is if they were entered wrong. I quit on the spot, and was hired at a sister location.

I still have friends I talk to at that job and one informed me that this hostess cleaned her table one night and there was no tip left for her. Well, my friend knew the customers and contacted them about her tip. The customer told my friend that they had left $11 in cash. Not only did the manager let her check the surveillance footage, but the hostess also got fired that night.

Why couldn’t I have gotten that same treatment? Why was I laughed at when I said something? Did my manager really care that little about me? Pisses me off
