I was told that I had to remember all of those stupid contact numbers at my very first day of working there. Although I didn’t say it straightforward, I thought it was ridiculously stupid. You can just print all the phone numbers out, it’s 21 century and we do have a gigantic printer! My coworkers were like “ no, it’s not efficient to always check a specific phone number when you need it, you have to memorize them wholeheartedly “. Apparently, I didn’t give a F about that opinion and I paid the price today for not listening.
The manager asked me to tell her some phone numbers of different departments today. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember even a single one because I didn’t pay attention to it. Seeing how poorly I reacted to her intentional exam, she was furious and extremely disappointed. “Memorizing contact numbers is the easiest thing in this world, it doesn’t require you to be smart to do so. You have shown me that you might not be capable to work here.” Basically that’s what she said to me. Wtf requirement this is, I had never heard of this in any other job I worked before.
