As a huge 80s pop fan I've observed that everybody knows Girls Wanna Have Fun and All Through the night but not many know about her 90s albums and in particular this pretty shockingly dark one inspired by a personal experience. I remember explaining the lyrics to this song to a coworker because they didn't know what “lost to some back-alley job” meant. It would have been so great if nobody knew what those words meant or what this song is about, and we were almost there.
