My boss has recently just laid off a few people due to the market (we are in real estate). Everyone that had to go has gone and now we have just heard word that he is asking people if he can lower their base pay because money is tight. It has nothing to do with anyone’s work performance and he is asking those who have the highest salaries to do so. Is this normal and something I’ve just never seen? To me this seems like it shouldn’t even be legal.
