- 11 years of retail experience
- Hired in October as Cashier for a certain American retail store
- Upsell myself during orientation with other Cashiers
- Get asked by the salaried manager of HR if I'm interested in working the Electronics department instead
- Get transferred to Electronics after 2 days as Cashier
- Never call out and hired on permanently after my 90 days are up
- January: All the original people in Electronics has left, making me now the most senior person there
- Ever since November, I close 5 days a week and get at least 32 hours a week
- March: Temporary new salaried manager for Electronics arrives
- Temporary new salaried manager introduces himself to me
- Reassures me I'm still the closer, because he likes my consistency (ie, I never call out and am the most boring non-social person ever)
- Acknowledges I have the most knowledge and best customer service when it comes to Electronics
A week later, temporary new salaried manager reduces my days at Electronics to 2 days
When asked about what's going on, he gave the following answers
- trying new things
- 3 ppl over there are semi-new so he wants them to get to know the department more instead of being Cashier (so instead, i get to be Cashier)
- this is retail, ppl don't get consistent shifts. I was lucky to be the closer every time because i was pulled in during a tough transition where all of the veterans left at the same time
- if i don't get my freight done, he'll get someone who can
- if i'm the only closer 5 days a week, it'll create problems when i get sick or need time off
- everything about that department is wrong, signs and items haven't been updated, so he's testing everyone to see their strengths and weaknesses to fix all of this
- This is only the first schedule he's written, and to give him time to figure things out
- Monday (yesterday) was the second out of three days of me Cashiering at the front
- The newest guy was supposed to close Electronics
- The newest guy has only been with the company for 3 weeks
- After 30mins of starting my shift as a Cashier at the front I get asked to go to Electronics because they don't know where newest guy is
- My schedule for Tues (today) has been magically changed to Electronics instead of Cashier
