Denied Job because I meet optional requirements

Just wanting to complain about the absurdity of job searching now a days. It seems to be you have to meet the “preferable” section of a job description too to be in for a shot. So here I am finding a job im qualified for and that I meet the preferred options too. One of these is quite unique and it's being able to speak a Scandinavian language fluently is a bonus on top of fluent English as it is the business language used in the company but some clients are Scandinavian.

(The company is based in the UK)

I'm very excited and I apply! I then get a phone interview from HR and let them know that I do in fact speak both languages and they're very excited at this too. After a little more discussion they ask what my salary expectations are and I state it would be on the higher end of the range provided due to meeting not only minimum requirements but also all preferred requirements too.

After this the demeanor completely changed and I was essentially rushed off the call. That was around a week ago and I have just received my rejection email.

I'm so deflated now and I can't agree with their email saying I wasn't a right fit especially when I ticked every box they asked for. I guess when I see jobs advertising a “scale salary” even if you have everything they really mean the lower end.
