Recently had a laugh about this decided it’s time to share to the denizens of antiwork.
Back in 2018, I worked for Kroger (Deli and Clicklist). I was at the time one of the most irreplaceable employees as I was willing to work both and often times departments literally had me going back and forth between them during an 8 hour shift. It was stressful and I wasn’t paid nearly enough (8.75 I think?)
I’d gotten the amazing chance to go to Japan that year, and dutifully I put in my time off request FOUR months in advanced and warned both department heads and all the managers. I did not let them forget it. I work diligently and save for my trip. Fast forward to September, a week before my trip.
Schedules come out, and I’m to work every. single. day. Of that two week trip. Oh heck no. I check the system. And I’m not even seeing a denial- it’s been entirely removed from the system by upper management (to avoid a fight with the union). At this point- I knew I wasn’t going to be sticking around.
I warn both department heads. Clicklist is smart enough to get those shifts divvied out asap. Deli? Heh- his response was “see you Monday.” Okay dumbass.
Monday I’m not there- I’m miles in the sky smirking my ass off knowing deli and management is in a panic because I’m not there. I’ve already blocked their number and didn’t even return to work when I got back. I just looked for a new job and found one within a week. Less stressful and paying far more with better benefits for the same deli work as before.
Screw You Kroger.
