I have a rare primary immunodeficiency where my body does not make antibodies. It's listed as one of the many medical conditions that supposedly warrant immediate disability benefits, yet I've been denied twice. I've been working a job that I shouldn't be with cleaning chemicals and physical labor but have been sick for four months and am looking for work where I can avoid both chemicals and physical labor. I have two bachelors degrees and several years of experience in medical and hospitality yet entry-level jobs paying barely above minimum wage don't even want to hire me. After it took me almost a year to find my current job it's disheartening to try again and apply for 50+ jobs with no luck.
Somehow businesses complain “no one wants to work” yet I can't find a job in a city of 4+ million? I'm not charismatic and physically attractive like my husband so I know jobs like receptionist work are probably out of the question, but I apply anyway. I apply to data entry, call center, collections jobs…nothing. No one wants to hire me. And I don't even list that I have a disability, because according to the government I don't qualify even though my medical condition should guarantee me benefits. I'm close to giving up. Without my daughter needing me and my husband I'd probably just find a quick way to off myself.
