Do people who WFH really work 8 hours a day straight?
Without giving too much info, I recently took a WFH job in administration. I work 8 hours a day, the usual 9-5.
I’ve asked some friends and I get different responses. I’ve been in and out of administration jobs and I’ve wondered- do people work a full 8 hours?
When in office, I pretended to look busy even if i wasn’t. When I spent a brief period working from home in the past, I just did my work and then just did whatever I wanted to while making sure I was available to respond to questions.
One friend of mine said this isn’t normal, that they work a full 8 hours even WFH and that it’s wrong to not do so. Another friend said as long as you get the tasks you get assigned done and are able to respond to messages, you can get some freedom.
I’m torn. Do people who WFH really sit and do their work for 8 hours straight? I feel like I would burn out so easily. I think I could do maybe 5 hours of work ? And then be available definitely if needed, and I realize this is only the first 4 weeks so I’m still learning. I just am unsure what to expect. Will I get fired if I am not sitting and working for 8 hours straight? What is your experience?
