Do you have a written job description? Did you have to ask for one?

I don't have one right now that fits my job. The previous one given to me included something like “description may change as needs change”. It was understandable, as my position was not quite like the previous people that did this kind of work (manufacturing support engineer). Now I don't feel it works anymore because, as many of you will probably agree, that language was meant to make this position highly flexible. I have worked on many different types of projects, and everything that's new that no one else has time for get dumped in my lap because I “can take the tough ones and figure it out”. I feel like its a backhanded compliment.
