Do you have labor laws in the US?

Hi I used to be a lawyer here in Brasil specialized in labor laws. I wonder what and if there are labor laws in your contries and how do they work? Here in Brasil there's a document called a CTPS (something like “Labor Registration”). If you're hired as an employee you must be registered by using this document, and you get some benefits, like these: a) 30 days vacation, with a bonus of 33% over your salary. Hi

I used to be a lawyer here in Brasil specialized in labor laws. I wonder what and if there are labor laws in your contries and how do they work?

Here in Brasil there's a document called a CTPS (something like “Labor Registration”). If you're hired as an employee you must be registered by using this document, and you get some benefits, like these:

a) 30 days vacation, with a bonus of 33% over your salary. Vacations must be paid 2 days before they are granted.

b) Thirteenth salary: in december you get an aditional salary. If you are fired before that you get a payment proportional to the number of months you have labored in that year (only months when you labored 15+ days count).

c) FGTS: each month, your employer deposits 8% of your salary's value in an special account. If you're fired with no justification, they have to pay 40% more over this total, and you can withdrawn this ammount.

d) Early warning: your employer must warn you 30 days before the termination of your contract. If he/she doesn't, they must pay you a full month's wage. You can work 2 hours less each day or skip work for a week to look for a new job.

e) Unemployment insurance: if you fullfill certain requirements (a bit complex to list here) you get 3 to 5 months wages (80% value) paid by the government.

f) Daily work duration is 8hs with 30min to 1 hour for lunch. Weekly work duration is 44 hours. If you work more than that in a day you are paid extra hours with a 50% increase.
