Docking hours for a natural disaster

I’m in my early 20’s, I live in Australia and work full time in finance. I left work halfway through the day because of the floods (as did most of us), as I was worried I wouldn’t be able to make it home. My boss didn’t pay me for those hours, which I do understand as I wasn’t actually working. Their reasoning was that the actual business didn’t shut down so they are under no obligation to pay us. But it rubbed me the wrong way as I am only earning graduate pay and they are millionaires. The fact that it was a natural disaster had me thinking they would have a heart. I don’t know maybe I’m just greedy
