I have a new manager (who my old manager used to insult, and I’m really glad she rose to the occasion and replaced him).
She is definitely a “company woman”, but looks out for me (us) so much more than the old guy that I regularly give her a heads up that I appreciate her being my boss. I’ve been sick twice the past two months, and her response was “you don’t think you have COViD, do you? Either or, I just want to make sure you’re ok and if you need anything to let me know. I’ve got your back”.
At her level, I just hope upper upper management doesn’t complain that she’s “too lenient”. She calls me to ask if I’d like to take overtime while simultaneously saying “I know it’s your day off, so no pressure to do it, I just want you to know that the option exists if you want to take it”.
Or if I say I’m running late, she says “I get it, I ran late last week. Just try to drive safely and make sure you’re not driving dangerously. Everything will work out”.
To me, she is the best type of manager- and she creates a work environment where I don’t want to miss the day, or let her down, cause she tries to not let me down.
If corporate fires her I’ll be really angry
