Does my boss get to know why I can’t stay for extra overtime?

Today, at the end of my 8 hour shift, boss calls and says we need to stay longer and get the job done (I work in construction.) At this point in time, we’ve already wrapped up for the day, picked up our tools, and billed the customer for todays work and told him we will be back to finish. I told my boss I wasn’t available to stay past 5:30 (a 10 hour day, I was willing to do 2 more hours.) immediately he started asking why I couldn’t. At this point in time, we’ve already wrapped up for the day, picked up our tools, and billed the customer for todays work and told him we will be back to finish.

I told my boss I wasn’t available to stay past 5:30 (a 10 hour day, I was willing to do 2 more hours.) immediately he started asking why I couldn’t. I told him I already had other commitments I couldn’t miss. He continued to demand I tell him what those commitments were, and I refused to budge because they aren’t his business. I know as soon as a boss asks what your commitment is, they immediately want to play the game of telling you how late you can be to the thing you are already committed to, or try to tell if you one is more important than the other. I find this super unprofessional and I’m not willing to take part in it.

He responded “well then we have a problem” and then talked to my direct supervisor for a while, and they have a meeting tomorrow about it.

I secretly hope I get fired because I’ve never been on unemployment before. But also, did I even do anything worth being fired over? Am I covered? I don’t see why my boss gets to demand details about my personal life outside of work.
