I work at a small automotive glass factory where I manage the storeroom (purchasing/inventory) as well as office supplies, propane, and all the chemicals we use for production. The downside is that before obtaining my current position I was trained to be a temporary (backup) “shipping controller”, and since our management refuses to be proactive about finding more backups for both shipping as well as my own position we have on multiple occasions had scenarios where I have had to cover for shipping as well as cover all of my other responsibilities at the same time for over a week due to someone getting covid. I am now in a situation where BOTH shipping controllers on day shift are out for covid and I was told by management that I will have to cover both positions next week until further notice, and the worst part is they said I'm “absolved” of my responsibilities in the storeroom even though no one else is trained for that position meaning I will have to do all of the work I'm not doing while I'm “absolved” after the shipping controllers come back from covid.
