Don’t be a mug. Don’t be me.

Vent about how being nice and loyal gets you fucking nowhere. Long story short I've been at my company for a couple of years. It's been always an easy, non-challenging IT job – maybe first couple of months was, but that's it. For months, if not more than a year I was tired of it. Nothing new, same routine, bla bla bla, no space for promotion, growth, promised training etc. In fact, I was expected to do things outside of my job description, without any training, just given time to “Google it”. Did I get a raise? Oh yeah, it wasn't even in line with inflation. And only after a couple of years. So I was well behind my market's worth. I laughed when I received it in fact, because it did sound like a joke. Or am I a joke to you. Ha. Anyway, enough is enough. I found…

I found a new job, I have received an offer and kindly let my employer know I am leaving. Oh boy how did it struck the HR. Oh no. Oh dear. Gorgeous. And there was so much to come. Yeah right.
I have made my exit graceful, without bitching about what I don't like (there is actually not much I do like about this job anymore).

Now, just casually browsing jobs, here we go. Here's the advert for my replacement. Paying up to 20% more than I earn (with much less expected experience). And benefits I never been given myself. Honestly? I laughed.

If you feel like a mug at work – time to leave. Immediately. Check your market's worth. Regularly. Demand. Don't look for excuses. Don't make somebody's business. Sod it. Be selfish. Do yourself and your replacements a favour.

So … I used to be loyal employee with great worth ethics. Loved by everyone, any place I worked in. Now I feel like the biggest mug, even bigger than Sports Direct mug. So fuck those work ethics, initiative, ambitions, whatever. You are a cow to milk and they will milk you if you let them. Use your energy for your own profit, not somebody's. And please, learn my lesson and don't be me.
