Don’t dedicate yourself to work. Have a life outside of your job.

Especially the baby boomer generation. It seems that dedicating yourself to work from age 20-65, and then retiring with no friends, hobbies, or support doesn't lead to a happy life. I think most are realizing that the retirement they dreamed about, of relaxation and fun, isn't all it's cracked up to be when you are in your 60s, have never exercised or eaten properly, have no physical, or really any hobbies besides TV, and no social friend groups outside of maybe 1/2 people. My uncle for example doesn't do anything. He wakes up, walks the dog, watches TV, and sometimes cooks dinner if his wife doesnt. That's it. He is retired and more bored and crotchety then ever. He has $3mil saved. I tried to get him to join a bowling league, join a gym, join a golf club, even go on vacation and he has no interest and blames his bad knee/ says he needs to take care of the pets. I don't think he has any friends besides his wife. But like, how do you push yourself to try something new if you have only worked for the last 40 years and that's it? I think staring down the next 30 years of life must be terrifying for him…
