Don’t forget to ask ALL of the questions.

I've been working (remote) for my company for just over 3 years now. I started off at a decent salary, but I have never received a raise. When I interviewed for the position I asked all of the important questions about salary, benefits, etc. – except one. I figured that yearly performance reviews and raises were pretty standard and I had never worked for a company that didn't do that, so I neglected to ask if I'd ever get a raise… The owners of the company think that just increasing the yearly bonus every year is good enough and they shouldn't need to worry about raises. Well, the problem is that in reality the bonus just isn't good enough. My point being that if you're in a position where you're interviewing for a job… don't take anything for granted and don't assume anything. Ask ALL of the questions. Just FYI,…

Just FYI, I have recently asked for “salary adjustment” (since they don't like the word “raise”) to bring my salary in line with the market. Just because they don't like to give yearly raises doesn't mean that they aren't worried that I'll take a walk if my salary doesn't keep up with the market. The reason that I waited until now to do this is a long explaination.
