I just saw yet another post about a long time employee discovering that a new hire is earning more than them.
We live in a messed up situation, where people have to spend all of their waking time devoted to someone else's interests, just to make money to survive. That's bad enough.
But when you discover that you're being actively abused while giving all your time to their interests, don't accept it for one second. Walk out right then.
These things don't happen by mistake. Many an employer tries to pretend that you aren't allowed to talk about wages because they don't want workers to find out exactly how rampant this is.
Not talking about wages creates situations where executive compensation soars while people doing the actual work struggle to meet their bills.
Not walking out the very instant you discover that you have worked in a place for a decade and are earning less than the new hire who reports to you is just giving the employer a softer landing. Giving a notice in that situation is akin to telling a kidnapper that you don',t like having them as a roommate so you plan to look for a new place yo live. Fuck that. These people are actively and willingly abusing you, stealing from you to line their pockets and conspiring to keep you from finding out about it.
Walk right out. Don't even take time to say why. They know.
