I work at a big corporation and recently moved to a new team. The old team I rotated from has a crappy error prone system that orders in too much stock so I’d have to manually send amendments to reflect our real stock demand because of it. Now that I’ve moved, I’ve had to do handover with the new manager on the team and it’s taking some time to explain all the technical aspects.
Now because the changes they have to make are so manual and technical they keep complaining and saying that I’m so calm and can’t believe how relaxed I am. Weird thing is that I’ve heard from at least 3 other people in the business that I’m ‘so calm’ on different occasions.
First of all, it’s not that I don’t do my job. I raise tickets with IT and have flagged the IT issues with higher ups numerous times. It’s just that I don’t moan about it 24/7. My life is worth so much more than just stressing about work all the time. After all this is just a day job for money not something I personally treasure.
I just don’t get what they expect. They may be trying to politely insinuate I don’t really give a shit but I refuse to go beyond my job responsibilities. My philosophy is to stop working at 5pm and I’m not going to become a mood hoover and give into work stress affecting my actual life.
