Spent two weeks in meetings and interviews for this position. Multi million dollar company. Have a verbal agreement as to what my contract will be, I help write the job description.
They start trying to get me to work before anything has been signed. I put my foot down, say I can’t do any more until my contract is signed. Sounds good! They call in the next day to sign.
Without explanation, they have set my rate at LESS THAN HALF of our agreement. I ask for clarification; they start in on how it’s a great opportunity, potential for growth, blah blah blah. On top of that they start mentioning other projects not even listed in the contract that would also be expected of me. I am so fucking insulted but I smile and nod through the meeting. Yep, sounds good boss. They ask if I’m ready to sign, I say actually I have to run, let me look this over and I’ll get right back to you. I take the contract and leave.
They are now blowing up my phone and email asking if I have signed, when can I get started, they need me to get going on this, blah blah blah. Idiots have already showed me their calendar, I know when their deadlines are and I know for a fact they won’t hit them without me.
Waste my time; I’ll waste yours. Planning on stringing them along with a few “Haven’t had a chance to look it over but I’ll get back to you!” until they catch on and it’s too late and their project fails. Keep your word, pay people their worth and don’t ever waste my fuckin time. Remember, they always need you more than you need them.
