I work in sales and in office, but all our work meetings and client sales meetings are over the phone. Not even over zoom or teams. Our clients literally never see us. I am the only woman on the entire sales team. I started this job with $4 in my bank account so I only had one pair of professional pants; the pants were very, very nice grey denim pants which I didn't think was an issue as everyone else (men) wore colored denim every single day and at times a t shirt with a flannel over the top and nice sneakers. I wore my nice colored denim, business professional button up blouses, and business professional heels. Every day. For three months. At the start of my fourth month my boss came to me and said that HR complained that I was unprofessional in my dress (despite me wearing the same three outfits for three months) and needed to start wearing slacks. The men still wear colored denim regularly despite the head of marketing sending out a revised dress code chastising anyone (me) who wore colored denim.
So I decided that for Halloween I am going to dress as a Man In The Workplace and wear my original denim pants, a tshirt, and flannel. And when people ask what I am, I will proudly declare “I'm a man in the work place!”
That's all. Just a pointless rant for the day. lol
