Me: I said can we revisit the call- is that you asking for a homework project?
Them: Yes, candidates generally are asked to prepare a deck and use on the call as part of call discussing the current business prompt we provide.
Me: I'm sorry – I'm going to need to widthrawl my application if this is a requirement. Ive been burned by this type of assignment previously. I'm not open to doing hours of uncompensated work for a company I'm not employed by.
Them: (a little surprised sounding) I've read about people feeling this way on LinkedIn. Would you be willing to take the assessments and meet with the manager anyway?
Me: Honestly, I'm not not sure because it seems like it could be a waste of both people's time if ultimately the hope is to pressure me into a case study project again. I am willing to discuss the x years of related experience I have with actual examples, and show historical work or even discuss verbally a topic with someone during a live session but I am unwilling to do uncompensated work on your current business issues. If you'd like to provide compensation for the exercise, my current consultant rate is X.
Them: well please consider taking the assessments –
I need a job, like really badly and I'm upset about it but I've already done two projects were I worked for hours to be ghosted by company's stealing my shit and I'm not about to do it anymore. One asshole group even decided to record my presentation because it's like they knew I'd barely put anything on my presentation deck and mostly speak. They also didn't inform me of the recording until right as the meeting started.
Just a rant.
