EEO training is so bizarre

So in the public sector job I work there were some EEO complaints because a bunch of managers in another section were acting like jackasses. One of them racist and sexist, another a sexist. In the public sector EEO issues are jumped on because it is relatively easy to win a payout from a grievance/lawsuit. Rather than deal with the problem individuals we all get a group punishment where we have to attend some versions of EEO training. Besides being poorly presented there were a bunch of scenario slides for discussion all taken from real cases the EEO office “resolved”. In one particularly bad scenario there was an office manager with a health issue (allergies) that was particularly impacted by a bad summer and exacerbated by using public transportation. His boss told him he couldn't telework and was needed in the office due to the nature of the job so…

So in the public sector job I work there were some EEO complaints because a bunch of managers in another section were acting like jackasses. One of them racist and sexist, another a sexist. Besides being poorly presented there were a bunch of scenario slides for discussion all taken from real cases the EEO office “resolved”. In one particularly bad scenario there was an office manager with a health issue (allergies) that was particularly impacted by a bad summer and exacerbated by using public transportation. His boss told him he couldn't telework and was needed in the office due to the nature of the job so when he felt sick he would use his accrued sick leave. This apparently was problematic because the office wouldn't function properly if the office manager was out. The supervisor reached out to the disability office to get they office manager a free parking pass but the employee turned it down saying they didn't want the miles on their car, to spend money on gas, or deal with city traffic. No mention of abuse or any suspicion of malingering.

I think the point of the slide was to say that once a “reasonable accommodation” offer was made (in this case the parking pass) no other accommodation would need to be considered (being allowed to telework). I actually agree with the sentiment that if the purpose of the job is to manage the physical office (set up video conferences, make sure supplies are there, manage signatures on paper then scan them in, etc), but the employee is using sick days when they feel sick. The discussion shifted to talk about how the supervisor should still address performance issues (which if there were any were not presented in the slide). I'm sitting there thinking the real solution is hiring another staff member. Like if the office can't function when someone uses their sick leave that is not an EEO issue, it's an issue with the management decision to keep the office lean. I felt like I was taking crazy pills.

All the other ones were nearly as bad.
